2013 Silver Sets Have Arrived!

This set contains 14 coins in proof quality, protectively encased in three clear plastic lenses and newly designed packaging. The 2013-dated quarters, half-dollar and dime are struck in 90 percent silver, generally referred to as “coin silver.” The silver in these coins can be seen by viewing the edge of the coin in the lens.

United States Mint proof coins feature sharp relief and a mirror-like background. Their frosted, sculpted foregrounds give them a special cameo effect. Proof blanks are specially treated, polished and cleaned to ensure high quality strikes. The blanks are then fed into presses fitted with specially polished dies and struck at least twice to ensure sharp relief. The coins are then packaged in a protective lens to showcase and maintain their exceptional finish.

The 2013 edition of the United States Mint Silver Proof Set features:

    • The fourth annual release of five quarters in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program;
    • The seventh annual release of four coins from the Presidential $1 Coin Program;
    • One Native American $1 Coin, Kennedy half-dollar, Roosevelt dime, Jefferson nickel and Lincoln penny.

Each coin in the quarter series features a common obverse (heads side) with the 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan, restored to bring out subtle details and the beauty of the original model. Inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR.

Theodore Roosevelt Dollar Coin, "Bully Good!"

2013's second Presidential Dollar coin honoring President Theodore Roosevelt is now available at The Coin Broker.

Theodore Roosevelt was born in New York City in 1858.  He was lieutenant colonel of the Rough Riders Regiment during the Spanish-American War and was elected governor of New York in 1898.  He became President upon the death of William McKinley in 1901 and was elected for a second term.

While serving as the 26th President, Roosevelt took an active interest in the design of American coinage.  He personally sought out a renowned sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, and had him redesign the "double eagle" ($20 gold coin) and the Indian head eagle ($10 gold).  Roosevelt also approved two commemorative coins:  the Louisiana Exposition gold dollar and the Lewis and Clark Exposition gold dollar.

After Roosevelt left office in 1909, he took some time out for an African safari, then jumped back into politics. He ran again for President in 1912, but was shot while campaigning.  He soon recovered, and died in 1919.

New America The Beautiful Quarter Arrives

The Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial quarter is the second of 2013 and the 17th overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program is now available at The Coin Broker.

The reverse design depicts the statue of Master Commandant Oliver Hazard Perry with the Peace Memorial located in the distance. Design candidates were developed in consultation with representatives of Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial.

This memorial site in Ohio was established to honor those who fought in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812 and to celebrate the long-lasting peace among Britain, Canada and the U.S. The memorial, a Doric column rising 352 feet over Lake Erie, is situated five miles from the longest undefended border in the world. The memorial bears the name of Master Commandant Oliver Hazard Perry. Six naval officers (three American and three British) slain during the battle are buried under its rotunda. It was first established as a national site on March 3, 1919 (40 Stat. 1322).
